Jack Ashley presents a petition to Sir George Young  1981Jack Ashley presents a petition to Sir George Young 1981So sad to hear that Lord Ashley died today.  He was a tremendous support for the campaign to get the International Code adopted in 1981 and onwards.

The photo above was taken outside the House of Commons in 1981.  He is presenting a petition to Sir George Young, then Health Minister now Leader of the House of Commons, calling on the UK to support the International Code. The UK did go on to give one of the strongest calls for its adoption at the World Health Assembly and the Code was adopted in May 21st 1981.
