Urgent call for pre-authorisation of baby food ingredients
(Proposal for a REGULATION OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL on food intended for infants and young children and on food for special medical purposes )
On Monday 3rd October there will be a meeting of the European Council to discuss the revision of rules which govern the laws on baby milks and foods. This is an important opportunity to ensure that the procedures are transparent, accountable, democratic and that the safety of infant foods is not left in the hands of the baby food and related industries.
Baby Milk Action, IBFAN and the Baby Feeding Law Group are calling for the pre-authorisation of all ingredients used in foods for infants and young children - to ensure that all ingredients are independently and thoroughly checked for safety and efficacy BEFORE being put on the market.
If you can - please help by sending a short message to your contacts in your government - supporting the above call and the points made in our submission to the UK Department of Health. You can find it on this link
